Brazil top world rankings

29/04/2010 | News
Brazil have moved into top spot in the FIFA World rankings, ending the five-month reign of European champions Spain.

The South Americans claimed the number one berth for the seventh time, with Spain dropping down a place to second, while the U.S. moved up two places to 14th.

Portugal climbed one position into third, ahead of the Netherlands and reigning world champions Italy.

Germany, Argentina, England, Croatia and France rounded off the top ten.

The U.S., ranked fourth in April 2006, regained the ranking they held between November and February.

The April rankings only took into account five matches, so most of the movement was caused by the devaluation of past results.

Record five-time champions Brazil are in pole position to go into the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in June as the world's top-ranked side.

FIFA World Rankings:

1. Brazil (+1 place)

2. Spain (-1)

3. Portugal (+1)

4. Netherlands (-1)

5. Italy

6. Germany

7 Argentina (+2)

8. England (-1)

9. Croatia (+1)

10. France (-2)
